Using AI to Plan Wall Repair and Gutter Installation

In this article, I will share my experience using AI to plan the work required to fix a wall and install a gutter system for water collection. I received a structured plan that provided an image of the issue and prompted AI with specific instructions, including a diagram illustrating the necessary steps.

The Issue

My house has a problem with the gutter spilling water onto the wall, causing the wooden planks to rot. The damage has worsened due to heavy rainfall in spring and autumn and the recent winters, which had fewer rainfalls but more rain in the winter months. To resolve this, I need to replace the damaged planks, fix the gutter, and implement a water collection system.

Using AI for Planning

I uploaded an image of the wall to AI and described the problem. The AI analyzed the issue and generated a step-by-step plan and diagram of the work to be done.

Observations on the AI-Generated Diagram

Interestingly, the AI-generated diagram does not exactly resemble my original wall. However, the output provides a good structural representation of the necessary repairs and improvements.

The AI-Generated Plan

• Identify and remove the rotten planks.
• Replace them with treated wooden planks that are resistant to moisture.
• Adjust and secure the gutter to prevent water from spilling onto the wall.
• Install a proper drainage system to direct the water into a collection bucket.
• Ensure the new system is properly sealed to prevent future water damage.

Conclusion

AI has proven to be a valuable tool for home repair planning. While the AI-generated diagram may not perfectly match my original image, it still provides a useful guide for efficiently executing the repair. This experience highlights how AI can be leveraged for practical applications, offering structured solutions and visual guides to assist in home maintenance projects.
