Western culture has engrained in us that dairy is the best source of dietary calcium. We’re taught about the four food groups in school — and that you get calcium from drinking milk or eating cheese. We’re also told that dairy will help you grown up to be big and strong. The only problem is a lot of us are sensitive to dairy, or are disgusted by hormones and antibiotics found in milk these days, or just plain don’t agree with the way animals are treated in that part of the food production chain.
