Motorbiking Versus Cycling: Which Fits Your Personality Best?

by bernt & torsten

Officially, motorbiking is a form of motorized cycling, while regular bicycles are pedal cycling. In short, you provide the power on a bicycle, and fuel gives you power on a motorcycle.

But besides that obvious difference, there are many other things that you need to consider before you take the plunge and start buying a kit, including thinking carefully about which mode of transport fits your personality best.

Love Panting Hard? Try Cycling

Riding a motorcycle is a relatively low-effort activity. Yes, it does require some core strength to tilt the bike through corners. But other than that, it is mostly sedentary.

The opposite, however, is true of bicycles. Pedalling can be tiring, especially if you have never done it before. And so if you don’t like taking exercise, it can be a bit of an ordeal. However, if you love to test your body and push it hard, then there is no better sport.

Love City Breaks? Try Motorbiking

If, on the other hand, you’re the sort of person who loves taking city breaks, then motorbiking will probably appeal to you more. With a motorcycle, you can travel from city to city, sampling the food, enjoying the sites, and getting to know the local people. Plus, it helps that you can weave in and out of traffic and park up pretty much anywhere you like.

Love Exploring Nature? Try Cycling

By contrast, if you’re the sort of person who loves exploring nature, then cycling might be the better option for you. When you ride a bike, you can explore all the local trails and traverse wilder terrain. If you’re a mountain biker, you can go up into the hills, ascend rocky paths and then descend down steep tracks.

You can also go touring on a bicycle. Touring bicycles are a cross between mountain bikes and road bikes, allowing you to traverse both city and country terrain with relative ease.

Love Speed? Try Motorbiking

If you’re somebody who just loves going fast, however, motorcycling is the clear winner. Many superbikes have greater acceleration than the world’s most expensive cars, giving you some of the best performance money can buy.

Love Thrills? Try Both

Finally, if you’re a natural thrill-seeker, then you’ll probably like any type of cycling – powered or otherwise.

Motorbikes are thrilling on the race track thanks to their speed and their ability to go round corners fast. However, bicycles also offer their charms, especially if you ride them downhill. There’s nothing quite like taking your mountain bike to the Alps and then riding it downhill for thousands of feet into the valley below.

Mountain biking is also fun for a host of other reasons. For example, you never quite know how the terrain is going to change in front of you. You have to plan ahead continually, watching for slippery rock sections, roots and sand.

Ultimately, both cycling and motorbiking are popular because they give people a sense of freedom. When they’re in the saddle, they feel they can live their lives to the full.
