A Poem: Time Millionaire
by bernt & torsten
When the morning wakes, still and clear,
No more alarms, no more rush.
I rise now as a time millionaire,
Free from the clock’s relentless push.
The years flew by, swift and fast,
In the steady hum of the race.
But now I'm here, in a time without bounds,
With a new rhythm, a gentler pace.
Once every minute was a treasure to keep,
Now they flow freely like a stream.
I gather them slowly, minute by minute,
And live each day like a dream.
No boss calling, no deadline that burns,
Just days filled with freedom's bright light.
I walk my own paths, on my own terms,
And follow where the wind takes flight.
Time millionaire – a new chapter ahead,
Where time is the wealth that endures.
I paint with hours, shape with days,
And live in all that is yours.
What is the poem about?
Time Millionaire is a poetic exploration of retirement, beautifully portraying the shift from a life bound by schedules to one filled with freedom and time. The term time millionaire is central to the poem, reflecting that after years of hard work, the person now possesses an abundance of time - a luxury they can spend however they choose.
The poem begins with the serene image of waking up without alarms or the pressure of a busy schedule. This symbolizes the release from the constant demands of work life. The person likens themselves to a “time millionaire,” someone who is now rich in time, no longer a slave to the relentless ticking of the clock.
As the poem progresses, it reflects on the past - the years that flew by quickly during the working phase of life when time was precious and scarce. The metaphor of the hamster wheel evokes the sense of being caught in a repetitive cycle of routine and obligation. But now, in retirement, that cycle is broken. The person finds themselves in a new, slower rhythm of life, where time flows freely like a river.
This newfound abundance of time brings with it a sense of freedom. The person no longer has to answer to bosses or meet deadlines. Instead, they can shape their days on their terms, embracing the autonomy that comes with retirement. This freedom allows for exploration, creativity, and the ability to follow one’s passions without constraint.
At its core, Time Millionaire celebrates the wealth that time represents in retirement. The person sees time as a form of richness, something to be used intentionally and joyfully. In this new chapter of life, time is no longer a burden or something to be managed; it is a gift to be cherished. The poem invites us to view retirement not as an ending but as a new beginning where time is the most valuable asset, and the person is ready to embrace it fully.
